                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Hubert Oxford were

 1-2     greatly saddened by his passing on May 6, 1997, at the age of 86,

 1-3     and we join them in mourning their loss; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Oxford attended Beaumont High

 1-5     School before earning his bachelor's degree in business

 1-6     administration at The University of Texas at Austin, and on his

 1-7     return to Beaumont he embarked on his long and fruitful career as a

 1-8     lumberman; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Mr. Oxford's keen business acumen was much sought

1-10     after by his professional colleagues, and he brought a wide breadth

1-11     of experience to his service as director of Beaumont State Bank and

1-12     American National Bank; deeply committed to the good of his

1-13     community, he was also active in the Beaumont Rotary Club and

1-14     served on the Beaumont City Council; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Oxford drew strength and

1-16     sustenance from his fellow worshipers at St. Anne Catholic Church,

1-17     and he and his wife, the late Virginia Cunningham Oxford, were

1-18     among the church's founding parishioners; and

1-19           WHEREAS, Mr. Oxford took great pride and satisfaction in his

1-20     large and close-knit family, and they will remember him first and

1-21     foremost as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and

1-22     great-grandfather; and

1-23           WHEREAS, An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Oxford took great pleasure

1-24     in hunting and fishing, and he was equally dedicated to his beloved

 2-1     pastime of gardening; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, Hubert Oxford was an astute businessman, an asset to

 2-3     the community, and a devoted husband and father, and though he will

 2-4     be missed, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all those who

 2-5     knew him; now, therefore, be it

 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-7     Legislature hereby honor the memory of Hubert Oxford and extend

 2-8     sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to his children and

 2-9     their spouses, Hubert Oxford III and Cindy Oxford, Virginia Oxford

2-10     Thompson and Raybourne Thompson, Patrick Cunningham Oxford and

2-11     Katie Oxford, Mary Oxford Englander, and Denis Oxford; to his

2-12     grandchildren and their spouses, Mary Francelia Oxford, Hubert

2-13     Oxford IV, Mary Cunningham Oxford, Virginia Barrett Oxford, Alaina

2-14     Danielle Oxford, Adriana Victoria Oxford, Gabriella Elizabeth

2-15     Oxford, Virginia Mary Thompson Brown and Ray Brown, Helen Sayford

2-16     Thompson Burt and Prentiss Burt, Patricia Oxford Thompson Lawrence

2-17     and Eric Lawrence, Elizabeth Shire Oxford, Virginia Cunningham

2-18     Oxford, Robert Oxford Englander, and Mary Catherine Cowling

2-19     Englander; to his great-grandchildren, Raymond Lloyd Brown IV, John

2-20     Prentiss Burt, Sadie Oxford Lawrence, and John Patrick Lawrence;

2-21     and to his other family members and many friends; and, be it

2-22     further

2-23           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-24     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-25     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-26     Hubert Oxford.
