                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Fort Worth Commission on the Status of Women has

 1-2     named Pamela Dunlop Gates a 1997 Outstanding Women of Fort Worth

 1-3     award winner, and the members of this chamber are proud to

 1-4     recognize this occasion; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, A civil litigation attorney, Mrs. Gates has been

 1-6     honored for her work in behalf of the citizens of Fort Worth,

 1-7     particularly women and children; her willingness to represent

 1-8     individuals who would otherwise be unable to afford the services of

 1-9     a lawyer is truly exemplary and should serve as an inspiration to

1-10     everyone; and

1-11           WHEREAS, This dedicated woman is a cum laude graduate of

1-12     Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law and was

1-13     ranked sixth in a class of 125; she also possesses a degree in

1-14     journalism from The University of Texas at Arlington and is close

1-15     to completing the prestigious Master of Laws in Taxation program at

1-16     New York University School of Law; and

1-17           WHEREAS, In 1995, Mrs. Gates opened her own firm, Pamela

1-18     Dunlop Gates, P.C.; in addition to her work as a lawyer, this

1-19     remarkable woman serves as a director of the Fort Worth

1-20     Metropolitan Black Chamber of Commerce, the Tarrant County

1-21     Workforce Development Board, and the Fort Worth Economic

1-22     Development Corporation, among other organizations; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Mrs. Gates is a staunch advocate of personal

1-24     responsibility, especially in regard to parents' commitment to

 2-1     their children; formerly director of the legal department of the

 2-2     Tarrant County Domestic Relations Office, she has demonstrated the

 2-3     compassion and understanding, as well as the tenacious work ethic,

 2-4     necessary to resolve the many problems faced by our young people;

 2-5     and

 2-6           WHEREAS, Pamela Dunlop Gates has served the citizens of Fort

 2-7     Worth well, and with the continued love and support of her husband,

 2-8     Reginald Gates, and her son, Stacy Dunlop, she will no doubt carry

 2-9     on her commendable efforts to create positive change in her

2-10     community; now, therefore, be it

2-11           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-12     Legislature hereby honor Pamela Dunlop Gates for her service to the

2-13     community and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued

2-14     success and happiness in the years to come; and, be it further

2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-16     prepared for Mrs. Gates as an expression of high regard by the

2-17     Texas House of Representatives.
