R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, John Aloysius Riley has demonstrated exemplary 1-2 allegiance to the State of Texas in the employ of the General Land 1-3 Office and more recently of the Texas Natural Resource Conservation 1-4 Commission; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born on April 26, 1957, Mr. Riley has overcome the 1-6 unfortunate circumstances that placed him in Newburgh, New York, 1-7 during his adolescent years; and 1-8 WHEREAS, This monumental mistake can only be attributed to 1-9 some sort of cosmic hiccup, and the members of this chamber are 1-10 happy to report that this wrong has now been righted, with 1-11 Mr. Riley living right where he belongs: Deep in the Heart of 1-12 Texas; and 1-13 WHEREAS, A former assistant district attorney in Brooklyn, 1-14 this native "New Yawker" attended Cornell University before finally 1-15 venturing outside of the Big Apple to Boston, where he attended 1-16 Boston University School of Law; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Since moving to Austin, Mr. Riley has worked hard to 1-18 shed his Yankee skin, although his "New York cool" and penchant for 1-19 reliving his glory days as a hotshot assistant D.A. in the homicide 1-20 division have been known to blow his cover in a New York minute; 1-21 and 1-22 WHEREAS, To his credit, he now recognizes that Austin is the 1-23 greatest place on the planet and that Texas is "Numero Uno," and he 1-24 has devoted a great deal of his time and energy to ensure that 2-1 these facts remain unchanged; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Through his hard work and dedication to the State of 2-3 Texas and its citizens, Mr. Riley has secured his place in the Lone 2-4 Star State, and his desire to become a true Texan shows that after 2-5 40 years of living, he is finally demonstrating the good judgment 2-6 and maturity that his friends and coworkers have long suspected 2-7 were lurking under the surface; now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-9 Legislature hereby declare John Aloysius Riley to be an Honorary 2-10 Texan with all the privileges and perquisites accorded those 2-11 individuals actually born on our state's hallowed soil; and, be it 2-12 further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for Mr. Riley as formal proof of his new status.
