                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of J. M. Kayser on April 20, 1997, at

 1-2     the age of 86, has brought a great loss to the family and many

 1-3     friends of this esteemed Snyder resident; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Mr. Kayser was born January 5, 1911, in Winkler

 1-5     County and grew up on a farm near Weatherford; he attended Texas

 1-6     Tech University on a football scholarship, earning both a

 1-7     bachelor's degree and a master's degree from that institution; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, A former classroom teacher and coach, he rose

 1-9     through the ranks of the teaching profession to become director of

1-10     government programs for the Snyder Independent School District and

1-11     a professor of social studies and history at Western Texas College,

1-12     and he further enhanced the quality of public education in the

1-13     Snyder community as a member of the local school board from 1983 to

1-14     1986; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Mr. Kayser was also highly regarded for his work in

1-16     the field of aviation; in addition to managing airports in Lubbock

1-17     and in Plainview, he was a flight instructor for the United States

1-18     Air Force from 1941 to 1945 and went on to own his own flying

1-19     school before retiring from that vocation in 1973; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Mr. Kayser left an indelible mark on the community

1-21     he was proud to call home, and though his special presence will be

1-22     deeply missed, his memory will long endure in the hearts and minds

1-23     of all who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it

1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-1     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of J. M. Kayser and

 2-2     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his

 2-3     beloved wife of 36 years, Dorothy Kayser; to his son, Ray Franklin

 2-4     Kayser; to his sisters, Doris Stark, Lura Lee Moore, Lois Kayser,

 2-5     and Beth Harmon; to his godsons, Armin Higenheiser, Tony Hecksher,

 2-6     and Buster Moss; and to the many other friends and relatives of

 2-7     this distinguished Texan; and, be it further

 2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-9     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-10     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-11     J. M.  Kayser.
