R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Damion Turner of Rockdale High School has reached 1-2 the pinnacle of success by winning the Class 3-A gold medal in the 1-3 high jump at the 1997 State Track and Field Meet; and 1-4 WHEREAS, This remarkable young athlete travelled to Royal 1-5 Memorial Stadium in Austin with the hope of duplicating the gold 1-6 medal-winning performance of his father, Bruce Turner, who won the 1-7 event in 1975; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Although he sustained an injury on an earlier jump, 1-9 he refused to relinquish his championship dream, clearing a height 1-10 of six feet nine inches to claim the coveted title; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Having achieved his goals at the high school level, 1-12 Mr. Turner now plans to continue his pursuit of athletic excellence 1-13 as a member of the University of Iowa track and field team; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Damion Turner is a source of tremendous pride to his 1-15 family, the students and faculty of Rockdale High School, and his 1-16 many supporters in the community, and his superb athletic 1-17 achievement is indeed worthy of special legislative recognition at 1-18 this time; now, therefore, be it 1-19 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 1-20 Legislature hereby congratulate Damion Turner on his victory in the 1-21 Class 3-A high jump competition at the 1997 State Track and Field 1-22 Meet and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success 1-23 and happiness in the future; and, be it further 1-24 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-1 prepared for Mr. Turner as an expression of high regard by the 2-2 Texas House of Representatives.
