R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Residents of the Lone Star State are known

 1-2     throughout the world for their generosity of spirit and willingness

 1-3     to lend a helping hand, and Alisia Orosco, a fourth-grade student

 1-4     from Abilene, has embodied both of these typically Texan traits in

 1-5     her dedicated service to the community; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, In recognition of her outstanding work in behalf of

 1-7     her fellow Texans, Ms. Orosco was recently named one of 10

 1-8     recipients of the 1997 Make A Difference Day awards, and this

 1-9     notable distinction is indeed worthy of special praise and

1-10     recognition; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Selected for her efforts to provide children at

1-12     Lubbock's University Medical Center with stuffed animals,

1-13     Ms. Orosco was honored at the national Make A Difference Day awards

1-14     presentation in Rosslyn, Virginia, where she shared a table with

1-15     her mother, Lisa Orosco, Abilene Make A Difference Day coordinator

1-16     Janet Ardoyno, Representative Charles Stenholm, and first lady

1-17     Hillary Rodham Clinton; and

1-18           WHEREAS, A high point of the day's festivities was

1-19     Ms. Clinton's presentation to Ms. Orosco of her award and a check

1-20     for $2,000, to be donated to The House That Kerry Built; designated

1-21     by Ms. Orosco as the recipient of the check, The House That Kerry

1-22     Built is an Abilene medical resource center for children; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Ms. Orosco's own charitable project was inspired by

1-24     her late brother, David, and she has continued to honor his memory

 2-1     through her kindness to other ill children; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, Abilene's well-deserved reputation as a town with a

 2-3     Texas-sized heart was also underscored at the ceremony when the

 2-4     city was awarded the Make A Difference Day Encore award, and this

 2-5     noteworthy distinction would have been impossible without the work

 2-6     of countless volunteers like Alisia Orosco; now, therefore, be it

 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-8     Legislature hereby congratulate Alisia Orosco on receiving the 1997

 2-9     Make A Difference Day award and extend to her sincere best wishes

2-10     for continued success and happiness in the years to come; and, be

2-11     it further

2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-13     prepared for Ms. Orosco as an expression of high regard by the

2-14     Texas House of Representatives.
