No. 1019 75R15412 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Dr. Lynn Hoggard, professor of French at Midwestern 1-2 State University, was recently accorded a well-deserved honor when 1-3 she was named the 1997 Hardin Professor at that university; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The accolade was established by the Hardin 1-5 Foundation for Wichita County in 1962 to recognize a faculty member 1-6 whose teaching and research have brought distinction both to that 1-7 individual and to the institution; it is the highest honor the 1-8 university bestows on its faculty, and it truly exemplifies the 1-9 respect in which Dr. Hoggard is held in the education community; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, She began her career with Midwestern State 1-12 University as a visiting assistant professor of English in 1976; 1-13 highly regarded for her knowledge of the French language, Dr. 1-14 Hoggard was an exchange professor of French at the Instituto 1-15 Technologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey Campus in 1-16 Chihuahua, Mexico, in 1993; and 1-17 WHEREAS, She has earned great acclaim for her written works; 1-18 her book, Married to Dance, the Story of Irina and Frank Pal, has 1-19 been one of the most popular books published by the university, and 1-20 she was one of the poets highlighted in A Certain Attitude, Poems 1-21 by Seven Texas Women, edited by Laura Kennelly; and 1-22 WHEREAS, This esteemed educator has also contributed to the 1-23 arts by writing newspaper articles, authoring reviews and papers, 1-24 and serving on several literary boards, and her remarkable 2-1 commitment has earned her the respect and admiration of all who 2-2 know her; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Lynn Hoggard has enhanced the quality of education 2-4 in the Lone Star State in numerous ways, and it is truly a pleasure 2-5 to recognize her on the occasion of her most recent honor; now, 2-6 therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Lynn Hoggard on being named the 2-9 1997 Hardin Professor at Midwestern State University and extend to 2-10 her warmest best wishes for continued success and happiness in all 2-11 her future endeavors; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for Dr. Hoggard as an expression of high regard by the 2-14 Texas House of Representatives.
