R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor

 1-2     members of the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department, whose recent

 1-3     actions in response to an emergency upheld the finest traditions of

 1-4     law enforcement in the State of Texas; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, On February 9, 1997, an act of armed robbery was

 1-6     committed at a service station near Mission, Texas, and after

 1-7     robbing the store, the perpetrators fled the scene at top speed;

 1-8     and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Members of the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department,

1-10     acting in concert with personnel from numerous other law

1-11     enforcement agencies, quickly gave chase and apprehended the

1-12     suspects; and

1-13           WHEREAS, The pursuit of armed criminals is one of the most

1-14     perilous situations faced by peace officers, for, in addition to

1-15     preventing the perpetrator's escape, officers are also responsible

1-16     for the safety of innocent citizens who may be present; the timely

1-17     and effective response of the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department

1-18     and other law enforcement agencies during the course of this

1-19     emergency was a textbook example of law enforcement technique at

1-20     its finest, and the officers involved are indeed worthy of special

1-21     legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it

1-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-23     Legislature hereby commend the members of the Hidalgo County

1-24     Sheriff's Department for their courageous performance in the line

 2-1     of duty on February 9, 1997; and, be it further

 2-2           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-3     prepared for the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department as an

 2-4     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
