                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Center's Ben Meeks will represent Texas in the

 1-2     alternate division of the 23rd Annual Future Problem Solving

 1-3     Program International Conference; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, An eighth-grader at Center Junior High School,

 1-5     Mr. Meeks will join approximately 1,800 fellow problem-solvers at

 1-6     the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on June 13-16, 1997; this

 1-7     dynamic young man is a two-year State Bowl finalist and during his

 1-8     participation in this outstanding program, he has offered many

 1-9     unique perspectives while developing a strong study and work ethic

1-10     that will benefit him for years to come; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Students will travel from Australia, New Zealand,

1-12     and Canada to take part in the 1997 conference, where they will

1-13     consider this year's topic, "Increasing Life Span"; the yearlong

1-14     program challenges individuals on a series of diverse global

1-15     issues, including such subjects as "Extraterrestrial Life" and

1-16     "Homes of the Future"; and

1-17           WHEREAS, This year, some 200,000 problem-solvers participated

1-18     in this exciting and educational program, and their involvement has

1-19     encouraged the development of analytical skills that have proved

1-20     useful in an array of real-life situations; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Mr. Meeks is a source of great pride to his parents,

1-22     Michael and Joyce Meeks, and his commitment to excellence has

1-23     earned him the respect of his coach, Elaine Snider, and his

1-24     school's principal, Paul Giannandrea; in addition, his academic

 2-1     exploits have earned him the esteem of his classmates and teachers;

 2-2     now, therefore, be it

 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-4     Legislature hereby commend Ben Meeks on his recent accomplishment

 2-5     and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and

 2-6     happiness in the years to come; and, be it further

 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-8     prepared for Mr. Meeks as an expression of high regard by the Texas

 2-9     House of Representatives.
