                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Center's Matt Middleton will represent the Lone Star

 1-2     State at the 23rd annual Future Problem Solving Program

 1-3     International Conference on June 13-16, 1997; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, More than 1,800 students from around the world will

 1-5     gather in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to ponder the topic "Increasing Life

 1-6     Span" and discuss the potential problems posed by this intriguing

 1-7     subject; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, An eighth grader at Center Junior High School,

 1-9     Mr. Middleton was recently named the state individual champion in

1-10     the intermediate division of the Texas Future Problem Solving Bowl;

1-11     he has demonstrated excellent insight into subjects such as "Homes

1-12     of the Future," "Competition," and "Cashless Society," and his

1-13     commitment to addressing such problems is truly admirable; and

1-14           WHEREAS, The Future Problem Solving Program challenges

1-15     students with a broad range of topics that touch on issues of

1-16     global significance; this year, some 200,000 problem solvers

1-17     participated in this exciting and educational program, which helps

1-18     to refine many valuable skills that can be applied to other areas

1-19     of these students' lives; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Mr. Middleton is a source of great pride to his

1-21     parents, Mike and Brenda Middleton, and to his coach, Elaine

1-22     Snider, and his school's principal, Paul Giannandrea, as well, and

1-23     his positive attitude and keen intellect have earned him the

1-24     respect and admiration of his classmates and teachers; now,

 2-1     therefore, be it

 2-2           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-3     Legislature hereby congratulate Matt Middleton on earning the right

 2-4     to represent Texas at the 1997 Future Problem Solving Program

 2-5     International Conference and extend to him sincere best wishes for

 2-6     continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further

 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-8     prepared for Mr. Middleton as an expression of high regard by the

 2-9     Texas House of Representatives.
