R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, On May 30, 1997, Progreso High School Valedictorian
1-2 Rosa I. Flores will address her classmates at the school's 1997
1-3 commencement ceremony, and this occasion is truly deserving of
1-4 special legislative recognition; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Earning the right to call oneself "valedictorian"
1-6 requires not only intellect and aptitude, but four years of
1-7 dedication to the highest academic standards; the valedictorian
1-8 must display a firm understanding of the entire curriculum, from
1-9 math and science to language arts to social studies, while
1-10 demonstrating an unwavering commitment to education; and
1-11 WHEREAS, The valedictorian serves as a role model and leads
1-12 by example, combining a steadfast vision of excellence with a
1-13 tenacious enthusiasm; the competition for this coveted honor is
1-14 often fierce, although the spirit of the rivalry remains rooted in
1-15 a tradition of goodwill and the rewards of the countless hours of
1-16 study and preparation are myriad; and
1-17 WHEREAS, Ms. Flores has earned the respect and admiration of
1-18 her friends and classmates at Progreso High School, and as she
1-19 presents her hopes for the future in her valedictory address, she
1-20 will no doubt inspire her fellow graduates to recognize and
1-21 appreciate the many possibilities available to them as they begin
1-22 this exciting new chapter in their lives; now, therefore, be it
1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
1-24 Legislature hereby congratulate Rosa I. Flores on being named
2-1 Progreso High School's 1997 valedictorian and wish her well in all
2-2 her future endeavors; and, be it further
2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-4 prepared for Ms. Flores as an expression of high regard by the
2-5 Texas House of Representatives.
