R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Honorable Rene De Alejandro was recently 1-2 reelected to the post of mayor of Robstown, and it is indeed 1-3 appropriate that he be honored for his exemplary civic leadership 1-4 at this time; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Robstown, Mr. De Alejandro 1-6 was a certified firefighter before joining the police department in 1-7 1974; highly regarded for his dedication and professionalism, he 1-8 rose through the ranks from patrolman to chief of police before 1-9 leaving the force in 1984 to enter the Southern Baptist ministry; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, He completed his seminary training in San Antonio 1-12 and Fort Worth, and since 1986 he has served as pastor of Central 1-13 Baptist Church in Robstown; this distinguished clergyman was also 1-14 elected vice president of the Texas Hispanic Baptist Convention, 1-15 which includes in its membership 986 churches and 1.2 million 1-16 members; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Despite the demands of his ministerial career, 1-18 Mr. De Alejandro continued to serve the people of his hometown as a 1-19 member of the Civil Service Commission for both the Robstown police 1-20 and fire departments, and from 1992 to 1995, he again served as 1-21 chief of police; his tenure in that position marked the first time 1-22 in the department's history that significant inroads were made in 1-23 the city's drug trafficking problem, and he was elected to the 1-24 mayor's office in 1996; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Throughout all of his endeavors, Mr. De Alejandro 2-2 has been supported by his beloved wife, Norfililia, and the 2-3 couple's five daughters, each of whom has benefited from the 2-4 unfailing love and guidance of her parents; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Rene De Alejandro has devoted much of his life to 2-6 the service of his fellow Texans, and as he prepares to embark on 2-7 this latest chapter in his already storied career, it is fitting 2-8 that he be recognized by the members of this chamber; now, 2-9 therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Rene De Alejandro on 2-12 his reelection as mayor of Robstown and extend to him warmest best 2-13 wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for Mr. De Alejandro as an expression of high regard by 2-16 the Texas House of Representatives.
