R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The efficiency and integrity of the nation's 9-1-1 1-2 emergency response systems are dependent on widespread public 1-3 awareness of proper emergency reporting procedures; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Of the hundreds of thousands of calls received by 1-5 9-1-1 centers across the country yearly, many are from young 1-6 children who are either unable to convey necessary information to 1-7 operators or who fail to understand the serious consequences of an 1-8 unwarranted emergency call, and it was with the goal of educating 1-9 children in these important issues that the 9-1-1 for Kids program 1-10 was first inaugurated; and 1-11 WHEREAS, By bringing accessible and understandable 1-12 information about emergency services to young children, 9-1-1 for 1-13 Kids ensures that participants in the project will know both how to 1-14 report an emergency and when making such a call is appropriate; and 1-15 WHEREAS, This information is presented to children in an 1-16 engaging and entertaining fashion by the program's mascot, Red E. 1-17 Fox, and by using games, quiz shows, and other educational 1-18 activities to educate children of the ages of four through seven 1-19 about emergency procedures, 9-1-1 for Kids greatly reduces the 1-20 possibility of unnecessary and unproductive calls by young people; 1-21 and 1-22 WHEREAS, In presenting this essential knowledge to children, 1-23 9-1-1 for Kids does much to ensure the safety and security of all 1-24 Texans, and this worthwhile initiative is indeed worthy of special 2-1 praise and recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby commend all those associated with the 9-1-1 for 2-4 Kids program and extend to them sincere best wishes for every 2-5 success in the years to come.
