R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The efficiency and integrity of the nation's 9-1-1
1-2 emergency response systems are dependent on widespread public
1-3 awareness of proper emergency reporting procedures; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Of the hundreds of thousands of calls received by
1-5 9-1-1 centers across the country yearly, many are from young
1-6 children who are either unable to convey necessary information to
1-7 operators or who fail to understand the serious consequences of an
1-8 unwarranted emergency call, and it was with the goal of educating
1-9 children in these important issues that the 9-1-1 for Kids program
1-10 was first inaugurated; and
1-11 WHEREAS, By bringing accessible and understandable
1-12 information about emergency services to young children, 9-1-1 for
1-13 Kids ensures that participants in the project will know both how to
1-14 report an emergency and when making such a call is appropriate; and
1-15 WHEREAS, This information is presented to children in an
1-16 engaging and entertaining fashion by the program's mascot, Red E.
1-17 Fox, and by using games, quiz shows, and other educational
1-18 activities to educate children of the ages of four through seven
1-19 about emergency procedures, 9-1-1 for Kids greatly reduces the
1-20 possibility of unnecessary and unproductive calls by young people;
1-21 and
1-22 WHEREAS, In presenting this essential knowledge to children,
1-23 9-1-1 for Kids does much to ensure the safety and security of all
1-24 Texans, and this worthwhile initiative is indeed worthy of special
2-1 praise and recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-3 Legislature hereby commend all those associated with the 9-1-1 for

2-5 success in the years to come.
