By Uher H.R. No. 1061 75R15565 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of Gustave A. "Goose" Franzen on 1-2 May 10, 1997, at the age of 80, has brought a great loss to the 1-3 many friends and relatives of this esteemed Collegeport resident; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born March 21, 1917, to Gust A. and Ellen B. 1-6 Franzen, he was a lifelong resident of Collegeport and was one of 1-7 the area's most successful and respected rice farmers and ranchers; 1-8 and 1-9 WHEREAS, Despite the considerable demands of his agricultural 1-10 pursuits, Mr. Franzen found time to make many significant 1-11 contributions to his community; he was a charter member of the 1-12 Collegeport Area Volunteer Fire Department, served on the Matagorda 1-13 County Hospital District Board of Managers for 21 years, and was a 1-14 trustee of the Palacios Independent School District for nine years; 1-15 and 1-16 WHEREAS, He was also a staunch supporter of a number of 1-17 worthy youth organizations, including the 4-H, FFA, and FHA, as 1-18 well as the Matagorda County Fair Association; and 1-19 WHEREAS, In recognition of his many achievements, Mr. Franzen 1-20 received many well-deserved accolades, including the Palacios 1-21 Chamber of Commerce "Rancher of the Year" Award in 1984, the Bay 1-22 City Chamber of Commerce "Rice Farmer of the Year" Award in 1991, 1-23 and in 1989 he and his beloved wife Ida Mae were named "Outstanding 1-24 Man and Woman of the Year" by the Woman's Club of Collegeport; and 2-1 WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Franzen was an active member of the 2-2 First Presbyterian Church of Collegeport, which he served as a 2-3 church elder; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Goose Franzen was a man of rare integrity and 2-5 generosity; although his warmth and wisdom are gone from us now, 2-6 his remarkable spirit will surely live on in the hearts of the many 2-7 people whose lives he touched during his time on this earth; now, 2-8 therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-10 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gustave A. "Goose" 2-11 Franzen and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: 2-12 to his wife, Ida Mae Franzen; to his daughter and son-in-law, Terri 2-13 and Cody Adams; to his sons and daughters-in-law, Derril and 2-14 Samantha Franzen, Wesley and Denise Franzen, and G. W. Franzen; to 2-15 his grandchildren, Tyler and Colt Adams, and Stephanie, Savannah, 2-16 Dillon, and Hayley Franzen; to his sisters, Dorothy Merck and Mamie 2-17 Wells; to his brothers, Clifford Franzen, Alex Franzen, and James 2-18 Franzen; and to the many other friends and relatives of this 2-19 beloved man; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-21 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-22 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-23 Gustave A. "Goose" Franzen.
