1997, Byron E. "Sonny" Cleere of San Angelo will commemorate yet

                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, With the observance of his 65th birthday on July 4,

 1-2     1997, Byron E. "Sonny" Cleere of San Angelo will commemorate yet

 1-3     another year of accomplishment in a full and rewarding life; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Mr. Cleere is the youngest of four children born to

 1-5     Buford and Myrtle Cleere in Alice, where he excelled in football

 1-6     and track; he earned an athletic scholarship to attend Abilene

 1-7     Christian University, and he was team captain, made All-Conference

 1-8     and All-American, and played on the only undefeated college

 1-9     football team in 1952; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Mr. Cleere shared his enthusiasm for sports and

1-11     education with the young people of Ozona as both a coach and a

1-12     social studies teacher for 10 years before moving to San Angelo,

1-13     where he is highly regarded as the owner of Meadows, Fisher &

1-14     Cleere Insurance; and

1-15           WHEREAS, This respected gentleman has further contributed to

1-16     the community in leadership capacities with many organizations,

1-17     including the Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club, Leadership San

1-18     Angelo, the Little Olympics, the Symphony Chorale, and the Symphony

1-19     Orchestra; and

1-20           WHEREAS, He has also offered wise and thoughtful guidance as

1-21     a member of numerous state and local boards; fondly known as "the

1-22     voice of San Angelo," he gives generously of his time announcing

1-23     football games, galas, and banquets, and by doing so, he makes

1-24     these events more memorable for all in attendance; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Cleere enjoys the love and

 2-2     support of his wife, the former Claudia Ketner, and his children,

 2-3     Kirk, Ned, and Paige; more recently, the Cleeres have welcomed the

 2-4     addition of the children's spouses, Patsy and Gregg, and a

 2-5     cherished grandson, Dixon, into the family fold; and

 2-6           WHEREAS, In all aspects of his life, Sonny Cleere has

 2-7     exemplified the highest standards of excellence, achievement, and

 2-8     service to others, and at this time, it is indeed fitting that he

 2-9     be honored for his many significant contributions to his community;

2-10     now, therefore, be it

2-11           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-12     Legislature hereby congratulate Byron E. "Sonny" Cleere on the

2-13     joyous occasion of his 65th birthday and extend to him warmest best

2-14     wishes for continued happiness and success; and, be it further

2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-16     prepared for Mr. Cleere as an expression of high regard by the

2-17     Texas House of Representatives.
