R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, In October 1997, members of Mount Zion Baptist 1-2 Church in Lyons will celebrate 110 years of faithful service to the 1-3 needs of their community, and this remarkable milestone is indeed 1-4 worthy of special recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The church was founded in 1887 by individuals 1-6 travelling through the area, and the congregation gathered for 1-7 worship under a brush arbor two miles east of town before building 1-8 its first permanent house of worship; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Over the course of the years, the church's edifice 1-10 has undergone many renovations; its current building was completed 1-11 in 1991, and this lovely sanctuary has served church members well 1-12 for the past six years; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Inspired leadership and an active membership have 1-14 helped Mount Zion Baptist Church to flourish over time, and the 1-15 church's current pastor, the Reverend Basel Lister, leads a 1-16 congregation committed to serving the Lord and its community; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Throughout its proud history, Mount Zion Baptist 1-18 Church has provided outstanding spiritual leadership and moral 1-19 guidance to its congregation; the church stands today as a tribute 1-20 to the dedication and hard work of its members, past and present, 1-21 who have devoted their time, energy, and resources to ensure its 1-22 continued existence as a house of God; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby honor Mount Zion Baptist Church on the occasion 2-1 of its 110th anniversary and commend the Reverend Basel Lister and 2-2 his congregation for the many significant contributions they have 2-3 made to the betterment of their community; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-5 prepared for Mount Zion Baptist Church as an expression of high 2-6 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
