No. 1075 75R16244 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Evelyn Duffy Pitts for her scholastic endeavors and congratulate 1-3 her on her graduation from Southern Methodist University on May 17, 1-4 1997; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A University Scholar, she successfully balanced the 1-6 rigorous demands of course work toward completion of her psychology 1-7 degree with participation in extracurricular activities, including 1-8 the Student Foundation, the Program Council, the Reformed 1-9 University Fellowship Youth Group, and Pi Beta Phi Sorority; and 1-10 WHEREAS, This remarkable young woman was also involved in 1-11 Parents Weekend, the university's Telefund, and the Student 1-12 Orientation Staff; she played an important role in the lives of 1-13 many young Texans as a volunteer tutor with both J.W. Ray 1-14 Elementary School and the Inter-Community Experience, and she was 1-15 recognized for her noteworthy accomplishments with the University's 1-16 Alumni Award; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Ms. Pitts further contributed to the Dallas area as 1-18 a volunteer with many worthy organizations and causes, including 1-19 Texas Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, Pediatric Center for 1-20 Restorative Care, Parkland Memorial Hospital, Genesis Women's 1-21 Shelter, and AIDS Awareness Week; and 1-22 WHEREAS, After graduation, she plans to attend the School of 1-23 Occupational Therapy at The University of Texas Medical Branch in 1-24 Galveston, and her academic excellence thus far has helped to lay 2-1 the groundwork for continued achievement in the future; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Ms. Pitts has demonstrated exceptional dedication, 2-3 initiative, and determination in successfully pursuing her academic 2-4 and career goals, and she is indeed deserving of special 2-5 legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby congratulate Evelyn Duffy Pitts on the occasion 2-8 of her graduation from Southern Methodist University and extend to 2-9 her warmest best wishes for continued success and happiness in all 2-10 her future endeavors; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for Ms. Pitts as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-13 House of Representatives.
