R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The recent passing of Mahulda Williams on May 15,

 1-2     1997, at the age of 72, has brought a great loss to the family and

 1-3     many friends of this beloved woman; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A native of Taylor, Ms. Williams was born on

 1-5     February 28, 1925, the fourth child of Arthur and Alberta Lewis;

 1-6     she attended school in the San Antonio Independent School District

 1-7     and graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School in 1944; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, Ms. Williams worked as a nurse at the Robert B.

 1-9     Green Hospital and the Santa Rosa Hospital for 31 years; she

1-10     completed the Kentucky School of Nursing's correspondence course

1-11     and received her practical training from Dr. J. L. Dickey in

1-12     Taylor; and

1-13           WHEREAS, A lifelong member of the Baptist Church, this

1-14     remarkable woman accepted Christ after becoming a member of Mount

1-15     Ararat Baptist Church and was baptized by the Reverend T. C.

1-16     Dobbins; and

1-17           WHEREAS, When her family joined Mount Pleasant Baptist Church

1-18     after relocating to San Antonio's east side, Ms. Williams became an

1-19     avid and well-regarded member of the church's choir; in 1953, she

1-20     joined Antioch Baptist Church, where she was an alto soloist in the

1-21     Jubilee and Sanctuary choirs and was a member of the Mission Chorus

1-22     and treasurer of the Nurses Aides Auxiliary; and

1-23           WHEREAS, In 1963, she was united in matrimony with Marshall

1-24     Napoleon, who preceded her in death; she married Eugene Williams in

 2-1     1989, and he also preceded her in death; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, Mahulda Williams was a woman of great compassion and

 2-3     generosity, and although her friendship will be missed by all who

 2-4     knew and loved her, her spirit will no doubt live on in the hearts

 2-5     and minds of the many people whose lives she touched; now,

 2-6     therefore, be it

 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-8     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mahulda Williams and

 2-9     extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her

2-10     sister, Marie Satterfield; to her nieces, Veda Adams, Jane

2-11     Harrison, Paulette Bright and her husband, Willie Bright, and Jo

2-12     Ann McCall and her husband Norman McCall; to her nephews, John H.

2-13     Smith, Jr., and his wife, Florine Smith, and James Nathaniel Smith;

2-14     to her special friend, Dorothy Mitchell, and her husband, Wilbert

2-15     Mitchell; and to the many other relatives and friends of this

2-16     esteemed woman; and, be it further

2-17           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-18     prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of

2-19     Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mahulda

2-20     Williams.
