                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, On April 20, 1997, Maria Cedillos celebrated her

 1-2     113th birthday, and it is indeed fitting on this remarkable

 1-3     occasion to honor her for her many accomplishments; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Born in Villahumada, Mexico, Mrs. Cedillos has spent

 1-5     the last century as a valued resident of Fabens, and her

 1-6     independent spirit and lively sense of humor have enriched the

 1-7     lives of all those who have known her; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, During the course of her life, Mrs. Cedillos has

 1-9     witnessed many of the great historical events of the era firsthand,

1-10     and one of her most noteworthy memories is that of seeing the

1-11     legendary Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa in battle; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Though confined to her bed, Mrs. Cedillos is still

1-13     possessed of great natural vitality and vigor, and her commitment

1-14     to good health led her last year to quit her lifelong smoking

1-15     habit, an impressive achievement at any age; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Maria Cedillos has lived a life as full as it is

1-17     long, and in sharing her wide breadth of experience with her

1-18     friends and family, she has contributed immeasurably to the life of

1-19     her community; an exemplary role model for her fellow Texans, she

1-20     is truly worthy of special praise and recognition at this time;

1-21     now, therefore, be it

1-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-23     Legislature hereby congratulate Maria Cedillos on the occasion of

1-24     her 113th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for

 2-1     continued happiness in the future; and, be it further

 2-2           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-3     prepared for Mrs. Cedillos as an expression of high regard by the

 2-4     Texas House of Representatives.
