R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Hawley High School Lady Bearcats have ascended

 1-2     to the pinnacle of success by winning the 1997 University

 1-3     Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 2A state softball championship,

 1-4     their second state title in the past three years; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, The 1995 recipients of the state title, the Lady

 1-6     Bearcats entered the 1997 season determined to regain their

 1-7     championship status; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, Facing Blooming Grove High School in this year's

 1-9     state title contest, the players on this spirited Hawley team

1-10     refused to be denied, shutting out their opponent 5-0 to claim the

1-11     coveted crown and complete their season with a record of 32 wins,

1-12     one defeat, and one tie; and

1-13           WHEREAS, Coach Rita Jordan provided her young charges with

1-14     outstanding leadership and encouragement, and her efforts helped

1-15     the Lady Bearcats to fulfill their goal of winning another state

1-16     championship; and

1-17           WHEREAS, These exceptional young women, along with their

1-18     coaches and staff, are a source of tremendous pride to the students

1-19     and faculty of Hawley High School and their many supporters in the

1-20     community, and their remarkable athletic achievements are indeed

1-21     worthy of special legislative recognition at this time; now,

1-22     therefore, be it

1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-24     Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Hawley High

 2-1     School Lady Bearcats softball team on winning the 1997 UIL Class 2A

 2-2     state championship and extend to them sincere best wishes for

 2-3     continued success in the future; and, be it further

 2-4           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-5     prepared for the team members and coaching staff as an expression

 2-6     of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
