R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Elizabeth Dragoo "Granny" Gilliland is an esteemed
1-2 citizen of Texas who will soon celebrate her 101st birthday, and it
1-3 is indeed appropriate that she be honored at this time; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Born June 23, 1896, in a log cabin in Davilla, this
1-5 remarkable woman was the youngest child and only daughter of Joseph
1-6 and Laura Graham Dragoo; she married James C. Gilliland on November
1-7 2, 1919, and the happy couple were blessed with six children: James
1-8 C. Gilliland, Jr., Estelle Gilliland Hartley, W. H. "Buck"
1-9 Gilliland, Troy Gilliland, Ella Kaye Gilliland Hairston, and Elda
1-10 Faye Gilliland Davidson; and
1-11 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Gilliland enjoyed a loving and
1-12 rewarding marriage for more than 30 years before Mr. Gilliland's
1-13 passing in 1950; today, Mrs. Gilliland takes great pride in the
1-14 accomplishments of her 19 grandchildren: Marilyn Gilliland Spriggs,
1-15 Carolyn Gilliland Reed, James C. Gilliland III, James Von Hartley,
1-16 Gaye Hartley Robertson, Randy Hartley, Beverly Gilliland Frantz,
1-17 Kathy Gilliland Avery, Sherri Gilliland Brantley, Jackie Gilliland
1-18 Oprea, Charlotte Gilliland Taussig, Herman Wayne Hairston, Loretta
1-19 Hairston Porterfield, Rebecca Hairston Moraw, Keith Hairston, Henry
1-20 Owen Davidson, Jr., Lloyd Davidson, Ricky Davidson, and Lisa
1-21 Davidson Gerthe; and
1-22 WHEREAS, In more recent years, Mrs. Gilliland has welcomed
1-23 the addition of 39 great-grandchildren: Erin, Robert, and David
1-24 Spriggs; Jason, Brandon, and Stacie Reed; Shanna Hartley; Michael
2-1 Robertson; Holly Hall Green; Sam Hall; Michelle Avery Reynolds;
2-2 Billy, Tina, and Daniel Avery; Melissa and Cyler Brantley; Shane
2-3 and Tara Oprea; Kimberly and Dawn Taussig; Travis and April
2-4 Hairston; Lacy Porterfield; Guy, Lisa, and Amanda Moraw; Cameron
2-5 and Jeremy Hairston; Duane, Dee Anne, Brooksy, and Haley Davidson;
2-6 Megan and Heath Davidson; Curtis, Will, and Reed Davidson; and
2-7 Alesi and Ayrton Gerthe; the newest members of Mrs. Gilliland's
2-8 large extended family are her two great-great-grandchildren, Isaac
2-9 Green and Madison Shay Reynolds; and
2-10 WHEREAS, Now a resident of Manor Oaks Nursing Center in Milam
2-11 County, this lovely lady continues to be a special presence in the
2-12 lives of all who know her; Elizabeth Dragoo Gilliland has
2-13 contributed greatly to her community and to the Lone Star State,
2-14 and her strength and spirit are an inspiration to all Texans; now,
2-15 therefore, be it
2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-17 Legislature hereby pay tribute to Elizabeth Dragoo Gilliland and
2-18 extend to her warmest best wishes for the future; and, be it
2-19 further
2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-21 prepared for Mrs. Gilliland as an expression of high regard by the
2-22 Texas House of Representatives.
