R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to
1-2 recognize the Giddings High School track and field teams on their
1-3 success at the 1997 Class 3A State Track Meet; and
1-4 WHEREAS, The teams combined for four gold medals and two
1-5 bronze medals as well as a hard-nosed fifth-place finish; under the
1-6 capable guidance of first-year Head Coach Shane Holman, the boys'
1-7 and girls' teams finished second and third, respectively, in the
1-8 event's overall standings; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Jermaine Cooper led the boys' team with gold-medal
1-10 wins in both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles, while also
1-11 combining with Steve Simmang, Phillip Mannie, and Damian Payton to
1-12 earn the bronze medal in the boys' 1600-meter relay; and
1-13 WHEREAS, In the girls' competition, sophomore Lameisa Thomas
1-14 grabbed gold in the 400-meter sprint and took the bronze in the
1-15 200-meter competition; in addition, she teamed with Kala Wolridge,
1-16 Stacie Kieschnick, and Larissa Hamilton to take fifth place in the
1-17 girls' 1600-meter relay; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Giddings High School's remaining gold medal went to
1-19 senior Dessie Bolen, who captured the Class 3A state high jump
1-20 title with a leap of 5-1/2 feet; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Coach Holman has laid the groundwork for the future
1-22 success of these talented student athletes, and his leadership and
1-23 vision have inspired them to attain a level of achievement that
1-24 will no doubt be elevated in the coming years; and
2-1 WHEREAS, These dedicated young men and women are a tremendous
2-2 source of pride for the students and faculty of Giddings High
2-3 School, and it is a privilege to join their many supporters in the
2-4 community in honoring them at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-6 Legislature hereby congratulate Head Coach Shane Holman and the
2-7 Giddings High School track and field teams on their individual and
2-8 team accomplishments and extend to them sincere best wishes for
2-9 continued success and happiness in all their future endeavors; and,
2-10 be it further
2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12 prepared for the teams and their coach as an expression of high
2-13 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
