R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On May 31, 1997, Harry Saathoff is retiring as a 1-2 parking attendant at the Texas Capitol, drawing to a close a 1-3 noteworthy tenure in his post that has spanned the past decade; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Before he began his service with the state, 1-5 Mr. Saathoff was employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad for 41 1-6 years, during which time he served as a brakeman, conductor, and 1-7 switchman; after he retired from the railroad, he went on to join 1-8 the staff of the Urban Transportation Department and worked as a 1-9 school crossing guard for four years; and 1-10 WHEREAS, This lifelong Austin resident was hired as a parking 1-11 attendant at the State Capitol in 1987, and throughout his tenure, 1-12 he has always accomplished his duties with the same attention to 1-13 detail and diligence that have characterized his service since the 1-14 day he began his employment; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Saathoff is the husband of 1-16 Ella Mae Saathoff and the proud father of three children, Harley 1-17 Saathoff, Sherran Saathoff Williams, and Kent Saathoff; over the 1-18 course of the years, the Saathoffs have welcomed into their 1-19 close-knit family their children's spouses, Emily Saathoff, Sue 1-20 Saathoff, and Burlison Williams, as well as six grandchildren and 1-21 six great-grandchildren; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Mr. Saathoff looks forward to an active retirement 1-23 tending to his garden and spending time with his family and many 1-24 friends in the Dessau community; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Through the years, Harry Saathoff's genuine sense of 2-2 commitment to his work has earned him the respect and admiration of 2-3 many people, and it is indeed appropriate that he receive special 2-4 legislative recognition on the occasion of his retirement; now, 2-5 therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby honor Harry Saathoff for his many years of 2-8 service to the State of Texas and extend to him warmest best wishes 2-9 for a happy and rewarding retirement; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-11 prepared for Mr. Saathoff as an expression of high regard by the 2-12 Texas House of Representatives.
