R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Dallas Lincoln High School's girls' track team has 1-2 captured the 1997 University Interscholastic League Class 4A State 1-3 Track and Field Championship, and this fine group of young women is 1-4 to be commended; and 1-5 WHEREAS, In winning the state title, the team garnered three 1-6 gold medals on the day, including a hotly contested victory by 1-7 Lakisha Robinson, Ashley Duncan, Tarieka Paige, and Natalie Young 1-8 in the 1600-meter relay; Ms. Young also grabbed the gold in the 1-9 100-meter sprint and anchored the team's 800-meter relay team, 1-10 which also took first place; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Led by Coach Blondell Crowe, the team's members 1-12 remained focused on their events, displaying their skills in 1-13 dominating fashion; the team finished the day with a total of 50 1-14 points, eight more than second-place finisher Houston Worthing High 1-15 School; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Coach Crowe has schooled these gifted athletes in 1-17 the finer points of track and field, while also emphasizing 1-18 sportsmanship and teamwork; each of the six team members capably 1-19 balances the demands of athletics and academics, and each boasts a 1-20 grade point average of at least 3.0; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Dedication to excellence both individually and as a 1-22 team has been a hallmark of the team, whose members include Lakisha 1-23 Robinson, Tarieka Paige, Ashley Duncan, Natalie Young, Merivonne 1-24 Jones, and Ashley Johnson; and 2-1 WHEREAS, These talented young women have instilled a feeling 2-2 of pride in the hearts of the students and faculty of Lincoln High 2-3 School, and it is a privilege to join their many supporters in the 2-4 community in honoring them at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby congratulate Head Coach Blondell Crowe and the 2-7 Lincoln High School girls' track team on their first-place finish 2-8 at the UIL Class 4A State Track and Field Championship and extend 2-9 to them sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in 2-10 the years to come; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for the team and coaching staff as an expression of high 2-13 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
