                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Emily Balanoff has been selected by the Austin

 1-2     Critics Table as best actress in a comedy for her starring role in

 1-3     A. R. Gurney's Sylvia, and this noteworthy honor is deserving of

 1-4     special recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, A mainstay of the Austin stage, Ms. Balanoff has

 1-6     graced such productions as The Sisters Rosensweig, I Hate Hamlet,

 1-7     Six Degrees of Separation, and The Illusion, for which she was also

 1-8     nominated by the Austin Critics Table, and the verve and consummate

 1-9     skill that characterize her work have moved and delighted countless

1-10     appreciative theatergoers; and

1-11           WHEREAS, In taking on the title role in Zachary Scott

1-12     Theater's production of Sylvia, Ms. Balanoff was confronted with

1-13     the unique challenge of portraying a dog for the duration of the

1-14     play without recourse to makeup or costumes, and her resounding

1-15     success is eloquent testimony to her resourcefulness and daring as

1-16     a performer; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Her Austin Critics Table award for this performance

1-18     aptly reflects the esteem in which she is held by her colleagues in

1-19     the theater, and she received even further spontaneous tribute at

1-20     the group's awards ceremony; on hearing Ms. Balanoff named as best

1-21     actress in a comedy, the distinguished dramatic artists present

1-22     erupted in a spontaneous group impersonation of her character's

1-23     trademark bark, "Hey! Hey!"; and

1-24           WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin,

 2-1     Ms. Balanoff is also a valued member of State Representative Kenny

 2-2     Marchant's staff, and she brings to her work at the State Capitol

 2-3     the same drive and diligence she displays in her dramatic

 2-4     endeavors; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, Emily Balanoff has distinguished herself as a

 2-6     performer of great talent and dedication, and it is indeed fitting

 2-7     at this time to recognize her remarkable artistic achievements;

 2-8     now, therefore, be it

 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-10     Legislature hereby congratulate Emily Balanoff on being named best

2-11     actress in a comedy by the Austin Critics Table and extend to her

2-12     sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the

2-13     years to come; and, be it further

2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-15     prepared for Ms. Balanoff as an expression of high regard by the

2-16     Texas House of Representatives.
