No. 1124 75R16753 BNL-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to 1-2 recognize Robert Hawkins, who was recently awarded the Lone Star 1-3 Distinguished Service Medal by the adjutant general of Texas; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A decorated veteran of the United States Army, 1-5 Mr. Hawkins has also served in the Texas Army National Guard and 1-6 the U.S. Army Reserve, and he currently holds the rank of 1-7 Lieutenant Colonel in the Texas State Guard; Mr. Hawkins was 1-8 honored for his many years of military service when he was declared 1-9 a Distinguished Member of the 143rd Infantry Regiment by order of 1-10 the Secretary of the Army; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Currently the director of Apprenticeship and Special 1-12 Programs at Texas State Technical College in Waco, Mr. Hawkins has 1-13 made many significant contributions in the areas of adult 1-14 education, workforce development, and human resources management 1-15 over the past quarter century, and he has brought his expertise to 1-16 bear on numerous boards, councils, and commissions; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Highly regarded for his professionalism and 1-18 integrity, this esteemed gentleman has been appointed by five 1-19 different governors to serve a variety of state entities, including 1-20 the Senate Advisory Committee for Vocational-Technical Education, 1-21 the State Job Training Coordinating Council, the Texas Council on 1-22 Workforce and Economic Competitiveness, and many others; he has 1-23 also been called on to represent the Lone Star State at two White 1-24 House conferences; and 2-1 WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Hawkins finds time in his busy 2-2 schedule to volunteer with several veterans' and charitable 2-3 organizations, and he has served the community of Bellmead as a 2-4 member of the city council and as mayor; he has further offered his 2-5 service to others as President of the city's economic development 2-6 corporation, as Treasurer of the Central Texas Economic Development 2-7 District, and as a delegate to the Central Texas Labor Council 2-8 AFL-CIO; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Throughout all his endeavors, Mr. Hawkins has 2-10 enjoyed the love and support of his devoted wife, Ladean, and his 2-11 three children, and in recent years his family has grown to include 2-12 two cherished grandchildren as well; and 2-13 WHEREAS, Robert Hawkins has proven himself to be a valuable 2-14 asset to his community, state, and nation, and his exemplary record 2-15 of hard work and devotion to public service is an inspiration to 2-16 all Texans; now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-18 Legislature hereby congratulate Robert Hawkins on his receipt of 2-19 the Lone Star Distinguished Service Medal and extend to him warmest 2-20 best wishes for continued success and happiness in the future; and, 2-21 be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-23 prepared for Mr. Hawkins as an expression of high regard by the 2-24 Texas House of Representatives.
