                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Insurance Agents (TAIA)

 1-2     will celebrate its 100th anniversary in July 1997, and the longtime

 1-3     commitment of this prestigious organization is truly worthy of

 1-4     special praise and recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Established in Waco during the early days of

 1-6     insurance regulation, the association's founders rallied together

 1-7     in support of fair and stable insurance rates for Texas' citizens;

 1-8     and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Throughout its century of service to the citizens of

1-10     Texas, this venerable organization has strived to maintain the

1-11     highest standard of professionalism among its members by

1-12     continually adjusting the educational requirements required for

1-13     membership; and

1-14           WHEREAS, Among the many accomplishments of the association

1-15     are the reformation of the workers' compensation system and the

1-16     restoration of insurance markets; TAIA has also worked to protect

1-17     the rights of policyholders and has made inroads into the

1-18     deregulation of insurance in Texas; and

1-19           WHEREAS, Each year, independent insurance agents in Texas

1-20     write $8 billion in personal and commercial insurance premiums,

1-21     which represents nearly half of the total property and casualty

1-22     insurance written in the Lone Star State, and the protection

1-23     provided by these premiums has helped to ensure the peace of mind

1-24     of millions of Texans; now, therefore, be it

 2-1           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-2     Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of the Texas

 2-3     Association of Insurance Agents and congratulate its members on a

 2-4     century of outstanding service to Texas; and, be it further

 2-5           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-6     prepared for the members of this organization as an expression of

 2-7     high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
