No. 1129 75R16521 JTR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Texas is recognized throughout the world for its 1-2 abundant variety of flora, and of the state's indigenous plants, 1-3 one of the most distinctive is the pecan tree; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Proclaimed the state tree in 1919, the pecan has 1-5 been a Texas native since prehistoric times, and although 1-6 widespread commercial production has only been pursued since the 1-7 turn of the century, pecans now represent a significant component 1-8 of the Texas economy and are the state's only commercially grown 1-9 nut; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The city of Seguin has long been known as a pecan 1-11 producer and is located at the geographical center of the 1-12 pecan-growing area that extends through the United States and 1-13 Mexico; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Seguin is also the home of The Pecan Museum, Inc., a 1-15 not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and 1-16 dissemination of pecan history, information, and lore; and 1-17 WHEREAS, This worthy organization has undertaken the 1-18 ambitious project of creating an International Pecan Museum in 1-19 Seguin, which would showcase the many facets of this great 1-20 agricultural asset through historical displays and presentations; 1-21 and 1-22 WHEREAS, Such a museum would be a fitting tribute to the 1-23 importance of the pecan to Texan commerce, culture, and history, 1-24 and its founders should be encouraged in their efforts; now, 2-1 therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby recognize all those associated with The Pecan 2-4 Museum, Inc., for their many contributions to the community and 2-5 commend their efforts to create an International Pecan Museum.
