No. 1142 75R16472 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Dan Sanborn on May 19, 1997, at the 1-2 age of 93, has brought a great loss to the family and many friends 1-3 of this esteemed McAllen resident; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Sanborn was born in Kankakee, Illinois, and 1-5 attended Kenyon College; he wed the former Eleanor Harding in 1932, 1-6 and the couple shared a deeply fulfilling union for 36 years until 1-7 her passing; and 1-8 WHEREAS, During the earliest years of Mr. Sanborn's career, 1-9 he worked in advertising and the family business, Lehigh Stone 1-10 Company; he also enjoyed a successful career in journalism and 1-11 owned several country newspapers before moving to McAllen, where he 1-12 founded publications for investors in the citrus industry living 1-13 outside the area; and 1-14 WHEREAS, After the freeze of 1953 devastated the industry and 1-15 his burgeoning enterprise, he pursued a career in tourist and 1-16 travel services, and Sanborn's Mexico Travel Service, offering 1-17 Mexican automobile insurance and his unique and popular road logs, 1-18 grew to encompass 24 offices from Brownsville to San Isidro; and 1-19 WHEREAS, His vast contributions in the area of travel 1-20 services earned him well-deserved acclaim; he was honored by the 1-21 McAllen Chamber of Commerce for his dedication to the area's 1-22 tourism, and he also received numerous awards from both the Mexican 1-23 insurance industry and the Mexican government's tourism department 1-24 for his promotion of travel and good will; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Dan Sanborn left an indelible mark on the Rio Grande 2-2 Valley during his lifetime, and though his special presence will be 2-3 deeply missed, his memory will long endure in the hearts and minds 2-4 of all who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dan Sanborn and 2-7 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-8 daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann Sanborn and her husband, David 2-9 Rosenfield, and Sara Sanborn Todd and her husband, Samuel Todd; to 2-10 his son and daughter-in-law, William and Mildred Sanborn; to his 2-11 sister, Deborah Ahlvin; to his grandchildren and 2-12 great-grandchildren; and to his many other relatives and friends; 2-13 and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-16 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-17 Dan Sanborn.
