No. 1143 75R16470 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Loring Terrill Cook of McAllen on May 1-2 19, 1997, at the age of 93, has brought a great loss to the family 1-3 and many friends of this distinguished civic leader; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mrs. Cook was born in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and 1-5 moved to McAllen in 1928; she wed Vannie E. Cook, Sr., and the 1-6 couple treasured the time they shared until his passing in 1954; 1-7 and 1-8 WHEREAS, A woman of great vision and strength, she will long 1-9 be remembered for her outstanding civic service; Mrs. Cook 1-10 volunteered with the Red Cross during World War II and maintained 1-11 her involvement in the community through the years, supporting the 1-12 Vannie E. Cook, Jr. Cancer Foundation, named after her late son, 1-13 the Loring Cook Foundation, which supports local education 1-14 projects, and the First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the 1-15 choir for 50 years; and 1-16 WHEREAS, She led a full and active life and made time in her 1-17 busy schedule to enjoy music, hunting, and travelling; her 1-18 commitment to her community was surpassed only by her love of 1-19 family, and her devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, 1-20 and great-grandchildren was a source of inspiration to countless 1-21 individuals; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Loring Cook touched the lives of many people during 1-23 her years on this earth, and though her special presence will be 1-24 deeply missed, her memory will long endure in the hearts and minds 2-1 of all who knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Loring Terrill Cook 2-4 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her 2-5 daughter, Betty Ann McCullick, to her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Cook 2-6 Landrum; to her grandchildren, Terry and Mike Miller, Kathy and Jim 2-7 Collins, Carol and Sam Dalton, Thomas Cook, Mike McCullick, and 2-8 Mark McCullick; to her great-grandchildren, Justin Tomasini, Von 2-9 Tomasini, Jennifer Collins, Will Collins, Courtney Collins, 2-10 Caroline Collins, Vannie Collins, Mike McCullick, Jr., Sam Dalton, 2-11 and Loring Dalton; and to her many other relatives and friends; 2-12 and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas 2-15 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-16 Loring Terrill Cook.
