No. 1147 75R16851 BNL-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, David Baker is a talented young Texan who has 1-2 achieved great success in the field of gymnastics, and the Texas 1-3 House of Representatives is proud to wish him well in his efforts 1-4 to compete in the Indo-Pacific World Games, to be held in Durban, 1-5 South Africa, this fall; and 1-6 WHEREAS, At the age of nine, David has already demonstrated 1-7 his prowess at tumbling and on the trampoline, emerging as the 1-8 winner of both the U.S.A. Trampoline and Tumbling National 1-9 Championship and the A.A.U. Junior Olympic Championship; and 1-10 WHEREAS, His involvement in this year's world games would 1-11 provide him with invaluable experience for the future, as tumbling 1-12 and trampoline will be added as Olympic events during the games in 1-13 2000, and David is setting his sights on an Olympic medal in 2004; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, David began exhibiting his remarkable athletic 1-16 skills at the age of two, and by the time he was five, he was 1-17 taking classes in both gymnastics and karate; he has already earned 1-18 his black belt, and the physical conditioning and mental focus that 1-19 he has learned through the martial arts will undoubtedly benefit 1-20 him in the intense world of international gymnastics competition; 1-21 and 1-22 WHEREAS, David Baker has exhibited exceptional maturity, 1-23 dedication, and discipline in the pursuit of all of his life's 1-24 goals, and as he prepares to represent his hometown of Victoria and 2-1 the Lone Star State at the Indo-Pacific World Games, it is indeed 2-2 appropriate that he be given special legislative praise and 2-3 recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby honor David Baker for his exceptional 2-6 achievements in the field of gymnastics and extend to him warmest 2-7 best wishes for continued success and happiness in the future; and, 2-8 be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for David as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-11 House of Representatives.
