R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, San Antonio's Jack Wilbert DeVaughn, Sr., and Almeda 1-2 Lavern Williams-DeVaughn have served their fellow citizens well for 1-3 many years, and the members of this chamber are proud to recognize 1-4 them for the many significant contributions they have made to the 1-5 betterment of their community; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Mr. DeVaughn has a degree in occupational education 1-7 from Southwest Texas State University and attended Southern 1-8 Methodist University's Edwin L. Cox School of Business; a retired 1-9 member of the United States Army, he has enjoyed a long and 1-10 distinguished career with the United States Civil Service and has 1-11 served his friends and neighbors as president of the Southeast Side 1-12 Community Organization and as chairman of the Eastside Community 1-13 Development Block Grant Coalition; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams-DeVaughn has worked as a licensed 1-15 vocational nurse in Medical Center Hospital's Neonatal Intensive 1-16 Care Unit for more than 20 years; her extensive community 1-17 involvement includes service as treasurer of the Southeast Side 1-18 Community Organization and membership in San Antonio Fighting Back, 1-19 a group of concerned citizens who have joined together to combat 1-20 crime in their neighborhoods; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Both Mr. DeVaughn and Mrs. Williams-DeVaughn are 1-22 active members of Jacob's Chapel United Methodist Church and they 1-23 perform a wide range of duties for the benefit of this vital 1-24 institution; in addition, they are proud graduates of the Citizen's 2-1 Police Academy and strive to keep their neighborhood safe as 2-2 members of Cellular on Patrol (COP); and 2-3 WHEREAS, This outstanding couple's commitment to the Salado 2-4 Creek Open Space Corridor and Nature Trail Study Group has earned 2-5 them the respect and admiration of their family, friends, and 2-6 neighbors, and their extraordinary efforts in behalf of this 2-7 organization are truly commendable; and 2-8 WHEREAS, By working to preserve the green areas and open 2-9 spaces that exist within the urban landscape, this dedicated pair 2-10 have demonstrated their concern for our natural treasures and have 2-11 helped to create an accessible oasis for young and old alike; now, 2-12 therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby commend Jack Wilbert DeVaughn, Sr., and Almeda 2-15 Lavern Williams-DeVaughn for their work with the Salado Creek Open 2-16 Space Corridor and Nature Trail Study Group and extend to them 2-17 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the 2-18 years to come; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-20 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. DeVaughn as an expression of high regard 2-21 by the Texas House of Representatives.
