                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Christa McAuliffe Middle School yearbook Odyssey

 1-2     '96 was recently chosen to receive the Columbia Scholastic Press

 1-3     Association  (CSPA) Gold Medal rating, the most distinguished

 1-4     accolade a yearbook publication in the United States can attain;

 1-5     and

 1-6           WHEREAS, Odyssey '96 was also given the state's highest

 1-7     honor,  the Award of Distinguished Merit, as well as the Gold Star

 1-8     Award at the Interscholastic League Press Conference (ILPC) State

 1-9     Convention held in Austin; in addition, this exceptional

1-10     publication was chosen by Taylor Publishing Company as a sample

1-11     workshop yearbook; and

1-12           WHEREAS, For the past six years, Odyssey has been one of the

1-13     most honored yearbooks in the state and is the only middle school

1-14     yearbook to have won an ILPC Gold Star Award; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Students who participate in the production of a

1-16     yearbook learn such valuable skills as photography, darkroom

1-17     processing, copywriting, computer graphics, marketing, and

1-18     leadership, and throughout the decade of the '90s the talented

1-19     staff at Christa McAuliffe Middle School has truly excelled in

1-20     these diverse and demanding disciplines; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Yearbook advisor Ben Rosales, associate advisor

1-22     Tammy Koenig, and assistant advisor Kathleen McCormack have

1-23     provided outstanding leadership and encouragement to their student

1-24     staff, helping them to approach each new challenge presented by the

 2-1     project in an imaginative manner; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, A school yearbook can be a cherished memento for its

 2-3     owner, crystallizing in its pages memories of people and events

 2-4     from childhood and young adulthood that might otherwise be

 2-5     forgotten; by setting a high-water mark for publications of this

 2-6     nature, the yearbook staff at Christa McAuliffe Middle School have

 2-7     performed a service to their school and to all Texans that is truly

 2-8     worthy of special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-10     Legislature hereby congratulate the students and faculty of Christa

2-11     McAuliffe Middle School whose efforts have made their yearbook the

2-12     finest publication of its kind in the State of Texas; and, be it

2-13     further

2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-15     prepared for prominent display at Christa McAuliffe Middle School

2-16     as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of

2-17     Representatives.
