R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, For many years, the people of Texas have benefited

 1-2     from the vision and leadership of the Honorable Ralph Moody Hall,

 1-3     and it gives the members of this chamber great pleasure to set

 1-4     aside June 7, 1997, in his honor; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Congressman Hall was first elected to the United

 1-6     States Congress in 1980 and has won reelection to each succeeding

 1-7     term; he has lent his talent and expertise to the commerce and

 1-8     science committees and is the ranking Democrat on the Energy and

 1-9     Power Subcommittee; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Before winning election to congress, he enjoyed a

1-11     distinguished career in local and state government; he was judge of

1-12     Rockwall County for 12 years and in 1962 began a decade-long tenure

1-13     in the Texas Senate, where he was president pro tempore from 1968

1-14     to 1969; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Congressman Hall's roots in Rockwall County run

1-16     deep; a native of the area, he was graduated from the Rockwall

1-17     public school system, was founding chairman of Lakeside National

1-18     Bank, and was a member of a local law firm, where two of his sons

1-19     practice today; and

1-20           WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Congressman Hall is the

1-21     husband of the former Mary Ellen Murphy, the father of three sons,

1-22     Hampton, Brett, and Blakeley, and the grandfather of five

1-23     grandchildren, and he takes great pleasure and satisfaction in each

1-24     of their many accomplishments; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, To honor Congressman Hall for his contributions to

 2-2     the community, the organizers of the Rockwall Hot Air Balloon &

 2-3     Jalapeno Festival have named him the First Annual Friend of that

 2-4     event, and we join them in saluting this distinguished native son;

 2-5     now, therefore, be it

 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-7     Legislature hereby recognize June 7, 1997, as Ralph Moody Hall Day

 2-8     in Texas and congratulate Congressman Hall on his many

 2-9     achievements; and, be it further

2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-11     prepared for Congressman Hall as an expression of high regard by

2-12     the Texas House of Representatives.
