R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Rick Schafer has been named the 1996 Citizen of the

 1-2     Year by the Oak Hill Business and Professional Association (OHBPA),

 1-3     and this singular distinction is deserving of special recognition;

 1-4     and

 1-5           WHEREAS, A resident of Austin since 1983, Mr. Schafer has

 1-6     been a welcome presence on OHBPA's board of directors, and served

 1-7     as the organization's president in 1995; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, He was also instrumental in gaining local support

 1-9     for completion of Highway 290, and was appointed to a task force on

1-10     this issue by State Senator Gonzalo Barrientos; and

1-11           WHEREAS, A keen sports enthusiast, Mr. Schafer has lent his

1-12     time and talent to a number of worthy recreational endeavors,

1-13     including the Oak Hill Optimists baseball program and the Oak Hill

1-14     Youth Sports Association, and he is also a vice president of the

1-15     Bowie High School Booster Club, which works to raise funds for the

1-16     school's athletic teams; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Mr. Schafer derives great joy and satisfaction from

1-18     his close-knit family, and he and his wife Beth take great pride in

1-19     their children, Stephanie, Richie, and Taylor; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Rick Schafer has distinguished himself as a vital

1-21     and valued member of the community, and it is indeed appropriate at

1-22     this time to recognize him for his many accomplishments; now,

1-23     therefore, be it

1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-1     Legislature hereby congratulate Rick Schafer on being named the

 2-2     1996 Citizen of the Year by the Oak Hill Business and Professional

 2-3     Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued

 2-4     success and happiness in the years to come; and, be it further

 2-5           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-6     prepared for Mr. Schafer as an expression of high regard by the

 2-7     Texas House of Representatives.
