No. 1171 75R16639 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, This year marks the 50th anniversary of the River 1-2 Oaks Police Department; and 1-3 WHEREAS, The department was created on April 1, 1947, with 1-4 John H. Boyd as the first chief of police, and for the past five 1-5 decades its members have dedicated themselves to protecting the 1-6 lives and property of their fellow residents; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Continuing the long line of distinguished service 1-8 established by his predecessors, Edmund Terry Fiene began his 1-9 tenure as the department's 13th chief of police in February 1996; 1-10 under his leadership the department created the Crime Control and 1-11 Prevention District, whose revenues have been used to purchase 11 1-12 new police vehicles, and the innovative and successful Community 1-13 Resources Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH) program; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The department also participates in a number of 1-15 popular outreach programs; its community service and school liaison 1-16 officers have made a positive impact in the lives of many 1-17 individuals, and the department's crime prevention program at the 1-18 Castleberry Independent School District recently earned 1-19 well-deserved acclaim; and 1-20 WHEREAS, For half a century, the River Oaks Police Department 1-21 has played a vital role in its community, and it is indeed a 1-22 pleasure to honor all those associated with the department as they 1-23 celebrate this significant milestone in the department's history; 1-24 now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the River 2-3 Oaks Police Department and honor Chief Edmund Terry Fiene and his 2-4 officers and staff for their many years of outstanding service to 2-5 their community; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for the River Oaks Police Department as an expression of 2-8 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
