R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Joann S. Conoley on November 19,
1-2 1996, at the age of 65, has brought a great loss to the family and
1-3 many friends of this distinguished Texan; and
1-4 WHEREAS, She was born July 19, 1931, and attended Texas
1-5 Christian University and Midwestern State University before
1-6 furthering her studies with a master's degree from the latter
1-7 institution in 1971; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Ms. Conoley began her distinguished career as a
1-9 classroom teacher with the Wichita Falls Independent School
1-10 District (ISD) in 1968; she went on to become a supervisor for the
1-11 Rockdale ISD before she was named assistant superintendent in 1977,
1-12 in which capacity she proudly served for nearly 20 years; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Outside the classroom, she had a profound effect on
1-14 education through her involvement in many worthwhile projects,
1-15 including the development and implementation of the Johnson and
1-16 Johnson Cooperative Learning Institutes, the Developmentally
1-17 Appropriate Language Arts Program, and the District Math
1-18 Improvement Plan; and
1-19 WHEREAS, This respected educator further contributed to her
1-20 chosen field as a consultant with both the United States Department
1-21 of Education and the Texas Education Agency; in addition, she
1-22 generously shared her expertise with others as a presenter at
1-23 numerous workshops and as a visiting lecturer at Texas A&M
1-24 University and Midwestern State University; and
2-1 WHEREAS, Her outstanding accomplishments earned her
2-2 well-deserved acclaim, for she was listed in Who's Who of the
2-3 World, Who's Who of Women, and Who's Who of the South and
2-4 Southwest; she was also honored by the Association for Compensatory
2-5 Educators of Texas, the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association
2-6 of Texas, and the Future Farmers of America; and
2-7 WHEREAS, A woman of great vision and strength, Joann Conoley
2-8 left an indelible mark on both her community and her state, and
2-9 though she is gone from us now, her memory will long endure in the
2-10 hearts and minds of all who were privileged to know her; now,
2-11 therefore, be it
2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-13 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joann S. Conoley and
2-14 extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her sons,
2-15 James F. Lane, Jr., and Joe Scott Lane and his wife, Christy Lane;
2-16 to her daughter, Kimberly Lane Long; to her grandchildren, Heather
2-17 Lane, Tommye Lane, Joel Lane, Scott Lane, Casey James Lane, Zachary
2-18 Morris, Ashley Morris, and Sarah Bishop; and to the many other
2-19 friends and relatives of this beloved woman; and, be it further
2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-21 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-22 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-23 Joann S. Conoley.
