                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, On March 22, 1998, members of Holy Cross Lutheran

 1-2     Church in Warda will celebrate 125 years of faithful service to the

 1-3     spiritual needs of their community, and this remarkable milestone

 1-4     is indeed worthy of special praise and recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, The church was organized in 1873 by eight families

 1-6     to establish a house of worship and a school near their homes in

 1-7     southern Lee County, and the Reverend Johann Christian Eduard Zapf

 1-8     was the congregation's first pastor; nine years later, the church

 1-9     relocated to its present site in Fayette County, where it

1-10     established itself as a bedrock in the community; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Over the years, the church has benefited greatly

1-12     from the work of its many fine ministers, and the church's current

1-13     minister, the Reverend Robert Boyce, has faithfully served the

1-14     congregation for the past decade; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Holy Cross Lutheran Church is one of the oldest

1-16     congregations in the Texas District and currently has 405 members;

1-17     the church stands today as a tribute to the dedication and hard

1-18     work of those individuals, past and present, who have devoted their

1-19     time, energy, and resources to ensure its continued existence as a

1-20     house of God; now, therefore, be it

1-21           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-22     Legislature hereby honor Holy Cross Lutheran Church on its 125th

1-23     anniversary and commend the Reverend Robert Boyce and his

1-24     congregation for the many significant contributions they have made

 2-1     to the betterment of their community; and, be it further

 2-2           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-3     prepared for Holy Cross Lutheran Church as an expression of high

 2-4     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
