No. 1184 75R16991 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Children are the Lone Star State's most precious 1-2 natural resource, and excellence in public education is an endeavor 1-3 in which all Texans have a stake; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A. N. Rico Elementary School in Weslaco has been 1-5 recognized by both Texas Monthly magazine and the 1997 Awards for 1-6 Excellence in Texas School Health program for its outstanding 1-7 educational initiatives, and these remarkable achievements are 1-8 indeed worthy of special recognition; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Texas Monthly's rankings of the school were based on 1-10 the performance of students on the Texas Assessment of Academic 1-11 Skills (TAAS) test, and designations of from one to four stars were 1-12 assigned to the state's best schools; Rico Elementary earned top 1-13 honors with four stars; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Department of Health in 1-15 cooperation with the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Cancer 1-16 Council, the awards program has also judged the school outstanding 1-17 because of its health promotion project, Walk for Student Success, 1-18 and this exceptional project has undoubtedly contributed to the 1-19 school's reputation as one of the finest in the state; and 1-20 WHEREAS, A. N. Rico Elementary School's recent honors are a 1-21 fitting tribute to the hard work and dedication of the school's 1-22 students, parents, faculty, and staff, and under the leadership of 1-23 principal Velda Correa, this talented team can indeed look forward 1-24 to meeting new challenges and opportunities in the years to come; 2-1 now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby congratulate all those associated with A. N. 2-4 Rico Elementary School on their commitment to academic excellence 2-5 and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success in the 2-6 future; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for prominent display at A. N. Rico Elementary School as 2-9 an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
