R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Georgetown Barbecue Cookoff, which has become a
1-2 part of that renowned city's annual Fourth of July celebration, is
1-3 the premier event of its kind in the State of Texas; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Sertoma Club, the Georgetown
1-5 Barbecue Cookoff is held on the banks of the San Gabriel River, and
1-6 the site's quiet beauty is an ideal place for contestants and
1-7 attendees to congregate; and
1-8 WHEREAS, The 1997 cookoff is sanctioned by the Central Texas
1-9 Barbecue Association, and will feature some of the state's finest
1-10 barbecue cooks, each of whom has a unique approach to the
1-11 preparation of this delectable foodstuff; and
1-12 WHEREAS, In addition to the cookoff, other events that will
1-13 take place at the Georgetown Fourth of July gala are an
1-14 antique/classic car show, a plastic duck race on the river, a
1-15 fishing derby, and a spectacular fireworks display; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Few culinary creations are more closely associated
1-17 with the State of Texas than is barbecue, and it is indeed
1-18 appropriate that the Georgetown Barbecue Cookoff be given special
1-19 legislative recognition for its promotion of this vital aspect of
1-20 our state's cultural heritage; now, therefore, be it
1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
1-22 Legislature hereby recognize the Georgetown Barbecue Cookoff as a
1-23 Texas Championship Barbecue Cookoff and commend its loyal
1-24 organizers and participants, whose vital contributions and interest
2-1 in the event each year have molded the Georgetown Barbecue Cookoff
2-2 into the finest of its kind in the Lone Star State.
