By Eiland H.R. No. 1193 75R16929 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Edward R. "Tim" Thompson, Jr., on May 1-2 24, 1997, at the age of 61, has brought a great loss to the family 1-3 and many friends of this esteemed Austin resident; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Galveston, he was the son of Dr. and 1-5 Mrs. Edward R. Thompson, and he was graduated from Washington and 1-6 Lee University in 1957; and 1-7 WHEREAS, After two years in the United States Army, 1-8 Mr. Thompson returned to Galveston to work with the H. Kempner 1-9 Cotton Firm; he left the cotton business in the mid 1960s and 1-10 enjoyed successful careers in banking and commercial real estate 1-11 for nearly three decades; and 1-12 WHEREAS, In 1992, he returned to school and earned a master's 1-13 degree in social work from Tulane University, and he spent the 1-14 final years of his life in a fulfilling career in service to 1-15 others, helping individuals to overcome drug and alcohol 1-16 addictions; and 1-17 WHEREAS, In addition to his noteworthy professional 1-18 achievements, Mr. Thompson will be well remembered for his civic 1-19 involvement; a member of the Galveston Historical Foundation, he 1-20 helped to honor that community's unique cultural heritage by 1-21 leading efforts to revive the Galveston Little Theatre, Inc., and 1-22 by helping to preserve the Samuel May Williams House and Ashton 1-23 Villa; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Tim Thompson touched the lives of many people during 2-1 his years on this earth, and though his special presence will be 2-2 deeply missed, his memory will long endure in the hearts and minds 2-3 of all who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Edward R. "Tim" 2-6 Thompson, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his 2-7 family: to his daughter, Stephanie Thompson Day; to his son, 2-8 Timothy Edward Thompson; to his mother, Leonora K. Thompson; to his 2-9 brother, Dr. Peter K. Thompson; to his sister, Rhoda Thompson 2-10 Ezell; to his grandson, Adam Thompson; and to the many other 2-11 friends and relatives of this esteemed Texan; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-14 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-15 Edward R. "Tim" Thompson, Jr.
