No. 1223 75R16447 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Patrick and Helen Hlavaty for their significant contributions to 1-3 the State Firemen and Fire Marshals' Association (SFFMA) and the 1-4 Texas Fireman's Auxiliary (TFA); and 1-5 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Hlavaty have long devoted their time 1-6 and energy to the betterment of their community by participating in 1-7 organizations that support the vital function of fire prevention 1-8 and control; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Hlavaty has been a member of the El Campo 1-10 Volunteer Fire Department for 17 years and has served the 1-11 organization as treasurer and president; in addition, he is a 1-12 member of Wharton County Rural Fire District, where he currently 1-13 holds the post of secretary; and 1-14 WHEREAS, His accomplishments in the field of fire prevention 1-15 include serving as sergeant-at-arms with the Guadalupe Fire and 1-16 Fire Marshals' District, and he was a member of the finance 1-17 committee of that organization and performed the same function for 1-18 the State Firemen and Fire Marshals' Association; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hlavaty has also been active in fire prevention 1-20 and control; she was a charter member of the El Campo Volunteer 1-21 Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, holding the offices of historian, 1-22 treasurer, and president consecutively, and in recognition of her 1-23 efforts she was selected as member of the year for the auxiliary on 1-24 four occasions; and 2-1 WHEREAS, In 1992 Patrick Hlavaty was elected as fourth vice 2-2 president of SFFMA in McAllen and has since become the 2-3 organization's president, with his term expiring in June 1997; also 2-4 in 1992, Mrs. Hlavaty won the office of fourth vice president with 2-5 TFA in McAllen, and her ascension through that organization to the 2-6 rank of president mirrored her husband's achievements; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Hlavaty, who have been married 26 2-8 years, are the first husband and wife team to move up through the 2-9 chairs of SFFMA and TFA at the same time; and 2-10 WHEREAS, Losses from fire, to both property and human life, 2-11 are a tragedy of major proportion in the State of Texas and across 2-12 the nation, and those individuals who seek to reduce the damage 2-13 from this raging force of nature perform a service that is truly 2-14 worthy of special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-16 Legislature hereby commend Patrick and Helen Hlavaty for their five 2-17 years of service to the SFFMA and TFA and extend to them sincere 2-18 best wishes for continued success in their vital work; and, be it 2-19 further 2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-21 prepared for Patrick and Helen Hlavaty as an expression of high 2-22 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
