R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The year 1997 marks the 50th anniversary of Phillips

 1-2     Petroleum Company's Sweeny facility, and this noteworthy milestone

 1-3     is truly worthy of special recognition; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Founded in 1947, the Phillips refinery has become a

 1-5     vital and valued presence in Sweeny, and the thousands of area

 1-6     residents who have contributed to the company's endeavors over the

 1-7     years take pride and satisfaction in their association with

 1-8     Phillips; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, The Sweeny area has greatly benefited not only from

1-10     the many employment opportunities offered by the Phillips facility

1-11     but also from the company's commitment to the well-being of the

1-12     community, and through the steadfast support of numerous worthwhile

1-13     projects, Phillips has enriched and enhanced the region's quality

1-14     of life; and

1-15           WHEREAS, For half a century, Phillips Petroleum Company has

1-16     been the model of a modern corporate citizen, and the company's

1-17     neighbors look forward to the next 50 years of this mutually

1-18     beneficial relationship; now, therefore, be it

1-19           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-20     Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Phillips

1-21     Petroleum Company's Sweeny facility and extend to all those

1-22     connected with the plant sincere best wishes for continued success

1-23     in the years to come.
