R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Pearson Elementary School in Mission has been

 1-2     recognized by the United States Department of Education as a

 1-3     National Title I Distinguished School, and this honor is truly

 1-4     worthy of special praise and recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, One of only 100 schools to receive this designation

 1-6     nationwide, Pearson Elementary was chosen on the basis of the high

 1-7     achievement levels of its low-income students, and this remarkable

 1-8     accomplishment will serve as an example of academic excellence for

 1-9     schools throughout the state; and

1-10           WHEREAS, The Distinguished School designation is based in

1-11     large part on Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS) test

1-12     scores, and the outstanding showing of Pearson students on this

1-13     test is eloquent testimony not only to their commitment and ability

1-14     but also to that of their teachers and the school's staff; and

1-15           WHEREAS, The Lone Star State's most precious natural resource

1-16     is its young people, and every Texan has a vested interest in

1-17     ensuring that all our children receive a top-flight education;

1-18     through their dedication and hard work, the faculty and staff of

1-19     Pearson Elementary School have made this ideal a reality, and it is

1-20     indeed fitting at this time to recognize them for their remarkable

1-21     efforts; now, therefore, be it

1-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-23     Legislature hereby honor Pearson Elementary School on being named a

1-24     National Title I Distinguished School and extend to all those

 2-1     connected with the school sincere best wishes for continued success

 2-2     in the years to come; and, be it further

 2-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-4     prepared for prominent display at Pearson Elementary School as an

 2-5     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
