R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The success of the biennial legislative session

 1-2     depends upon a great number of individuals, and the many interns

 1-3     who generously volunteer their assistance to the State of Texas are

 1-4     indeed deserving of special legislative recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, California native Rocio Toriz has earned the respect

 1-6     and admiration of her coworkers and peers as an intern on

 1-7     Representative Norma Chavez's staff; in addition to her many other

 1-8     duties, her work on the issues of immigration, higher education,

 1-9     and veterans' affairs has been particularly impressive and useful;

1-10     and

1-11           WHEREAS, Ms. Toriz is in her second year at the Lyndon Baines

1-12     Johnson School of Public Affairs and is a member of the Public

1-13     Affairs Minority Liaison Committee; she has an active interest in

1-14     immigration law and is contemplating the pursuit of a career

1-15     dealing with this issue; and

1-16           WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of California at

1-17     Berkeley, Ms. Toriz received her undergraduate degree in sociology;

1-18     her desire to study public policy helped her earn a Woodrow Wilson

1-19     fellowship, which is available to outstanding minority students who

1-20     choose this path of study; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Rocio Toriz's invaluable assistance throughout her

1-22     internship has helped make the 75th Legislative Session a positive

1-23     experience for the members of Representative Chavez's staff, and as

1-24     this session winds to a conclusion, the members of this chamber are

 2-1     pleased to recognize her dedication and commitment to excellence;

 2-2     now, therefore, be it

 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-4     Legislature hereby commend Rocio Toriz for her contributions to the

 2-5     success of the 75th Legislative Session and extend to her sincere

 2-6     best wishes for continued success and happiness in all her future

 2-7     endeavors; and, be it further

 2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-9     prepared for Ms. Toriz as an expression of high regard by the Texas

2-10     House of Representatives.
