                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Paul Thomas Cook on March 4, 1996, at

 1-2     the age of 67, has brought a great loss to the family and many

 1-3     friends of this esteemed Jasper resident; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Mr. Cook attended

 1-5     Baylor University and was graduated from The University of Texas,

 1-6     and he enjoyed a fulfilling career with the Texas Department of

 1-7     Transportation that spanned 40 years; he retired in 1995 as chief

 1-8     resident engineer for Jasper, Newton, and Tyler counties; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Mr. Cook was a charter member of the Jasper Evening

1-10     Lions Club; he further contributed to his community by designing

1-11     architectural plans for many structures in the area, including the

1-12     highly praised Sandy Creek Park, and he was recognized for his

1-13     noteworthy contributions with Jasper's Citizen of the Year Award in

1-14     1996; and   

1-15           WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he was sustained by his

1-16     abiding faith as a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of

1-17     Jasper, where he served in many capacities, having chaired the

1-18     Buildings and Grounds Committee and directed a Singles Sunday

1-19     school class with his wife, Liz; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Paul Cook touched the lives of many people during

1-21     his years on this earth, and though he is gone from us now, his

1-22     memory will long endure in the hearts and minds of all who knew and

1-23     loved him; now, therefore, be it

1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-1     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Paul Thomas Cook and

 2-2     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to his wife,

 2-3     Liz Cook; to his sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Marcia Cook,

 2-4     Kevin and Monica Cook, and Kim and Janey Cook; to his daughter and

 2-5     son-in-law, Melody and Michael Parker; to his stepdaughters, Jamie

 2-6     Hopper and Kelly Schlotman and her husband, Kirk Schlotman; to his

 2-7     10 grandchildren; and to the many other friends and relatives of

 2-8     this distinguished Texan; and, be it further

 2-9           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-10     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-11     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-12     Paul Thomas Cook.
