R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Laura Margarita Uribarri has distinguished herself 1-2 as a valued legislative aide to State Representative Norma Chavez, 1-3 and her many contributions to the Texas Legislature are truly 1-4 worthy of special recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, An honors graduate of Stanford University, 1-6 Ms. Uribarri is currently pursuing graduate work at the Lyndon B. 1-7 Johnson School of Public Affairs, and her astute grasp of economic 1-8 and public policy issues has been an invaluable asset to 1-9 Representative Chavez; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Among Ms. Uribarri's particular areas of interest 1-11 are environmental protection and the unique challenges that 1-12 confront border communities, and her senior honors thesis dealt 1-13 with transnational air pollution along the Mexico-United States 1-14 border; fluent in Spanish, she has also lent her talents as a 1-15 translator to the Environmental Defense Fund while interning at 1-16 that organization; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to the celebration and preservation 1-18 of the rich cultural traditions of Central and South America, 1-19 Ms. Uribarri served as cochair of Ballet Folklorico de Stanford and 1-20 was a folklorico instructor at Menlo/Atherton High School; she also 1-21 served on the Chicano/Latino Graduation Committee and was a member 1-22 of Mujeres at Stanford; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Laura Margarita Uribarri's keen intelligence and 1-24 steadfast dedication to public service have greatly benefited her 2-1 colleagues in the Texas Legislature, and it is indeed fitting at 2-2 this time to recognize her for her many remarkable accomplishments; 2-3 now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby honor Laura Margarita Uribarri for her service 2-6 to the Lone Star State and extend to her sincere best wishes for 2-7 continued success and happiness in the years to come; and, be it 2-8 further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for Ms. Uribarri as an expression of high regard by the 2-11 Texas House of Representatives.
