R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, the Honorable D. R. "Tom" 1-2 Uher has served the people of Texas with integrity and distinction 1-3 in his capacity as state representative, and his many outstanding 1-4 contributions to the betterment of this state are indeed worthy of 1-5 special praise and recognition at this time; and 1-6 WHEREAS, First elected to the Texas House of Representatives 1-7 in 1967, Representative Uher has been an influential presence 1-8 throughout his tenure in this chamber, chairing the redistricting 1-9 and state affairs committees and acting as chairman of budget and 1-10 oversight for the higher education committee as well as 1-11 vice-chairman of the public health committee; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Currently serving on the committees on general 1-13 investigating, public education, and transportation, 1-14 Representative Uher has also lent his talent and expertise in the 1-15 past to the committees on agriculture and livestock, 1-16 appropriations, banks and banking, calendars, constitutional 1-17 amendments, criminal jurisprudence, house administration, human 1-18 services, insurance, judiciary, liquor regulation, parks and 1-19 wildlife, revenue and taxation, and ways and means; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Representative Uher's remarkable breadth of 1-21 experience has made him Dean of the House, and his fellow lawmakers 1-22 have greatly benefited from his sound judgment and leadership in 1-23 both this capacity and as Speaker Pro Tempore; and 1-24 WHEREAS, The high esteem in which he is held by his 2-1 colleagues is aptly reflected in his popularity with his own 2-2 constituents, and his efforts in behalf of the residents of 2-3 Brazoria, Matagorda, and Wharton counties through the years have 2-4 earned him a special place in the region's history; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Representative Uher's remarkable career and many 2-6 accomplishments would not have been possible without the steadfast 2-7 support of his wife, Ann, and he continues to draw strength and 2-8 sustenance from their life together; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Tom Uher's lifetime of service to his community and 2-10 to the State of Texas has changed the lives of his fellow citizens 2-11 for the better, and it is indeed fitting at this time to recognize 2-12 him as a skilled legislator and exemplary public servant; now, 2-13 therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-15 Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable D. R. "Tom" Uher on 2-16 his distinguished career in public service and commend him for his 2-17 continuing efforts in this regard; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for Representative Uher as an expression of highest regard 2-20 by his colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives.
