R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Rosa Ramirez Guerrero has distinguished herself as a

 1-2     talented artist, a gifted educator, and a public-spirited citizen,

 1-3     and her many accomplishments are truly worthy of special praise and

 1-4     recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, An El Paso native, she began dancing at the age of

 1-6     three, and after graduating from El Paso High School, she attended

 1-7     Texas Woman's University on a dance scholarship and went on to earn

 1-8     her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from The

 1-9     University of Texas at El Paso; and

1-10           WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Mrs. Guerrero taught in

1-11     the El Paso public schools, and during that time she not only

1-12     developed a number of innovative dance and physical education

1-13     programs for schoolchildren but also continued to pursue her own

1-14     remarkable dance career; and

1-15           WHEREAS, The founder of the International Folklorico Dance

1-16     Group, Mrs. Guerrero has moved and delighted audiences across the

1-17     nation, and in 1983 the troupe performed for President Ronald

1-18     Reagan in Washington, D.C.; and

1-19           WHEREAS, In addition to her many professional

1-20     accomplishments, Mrs. Guerrero has also given freely of her time

1-21     and talent to benefit a number of worthwhile causes; a welcome

1-22     presence on the boards of such notable organizations as the El Paso

1-23     Library, the American Association of University Women, and the El

1-24     Paso Chamber of Commerce, she is also one of the founders of the

 2-1     Ruben Salazar Foundation; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, The high esteem in which Mrs. Guerrero is held by

 2-3     her colleagues and professional peers is evident from the many

 2-4     honors she has been accorded, including the Texas State Teachers

 2-5     Association's Human Relations Award, the Catholic Media Ministries

 2-6     of El Paso's Good Samaritan Award, and the Coors Excellence Citizen

 2-7     Award; a member of the El Paso Women's Hall of Fame and the Texas

 2-8     Women's Hall of Fame, she is also the namesake of Rosa Guerrero

 2-9     Elementary School in El Paso; and

2-10           WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Mrs. Guerrero has drawn

2-11     strength and inspiration from her close-knit family, and she and

2-12     her husband Sergio take great pride in their children, Sergio Jr.,

2-13     Ana, and Roland; and

2-14           WHEREAS, Rosa Ramirez Guerrero's life and work stand as

2-15     eloquent testimony to the ability of one individual to change the

2-16     world around her for the better, and it is indeed fitting at this

2-17     time to recognize her for her many accomplishments; now, therefore,

2-18     be it

2-19           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-20     Legislature hereby honor Rosa Ramirez Guerrero for her many

2-21     contributions to the community and extend to her sincere best

2-22     wishes for continued happiness and success in the years to come;

2-23     and, be it further

2-24           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-25     prepared for Mrs. Guerrero as an expression of high regard by the

2-26     Texas House of Representatives.
