R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, This year, Dr. Justin Wakeland is retiring as 1-2 superintendent of schools with the Frisco Independent School 1-3 District, drawing to a close a distinguished career in the field of 1-4 public education that has spanned more than 35 years; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Dr. Wakeland was graduated from The University of 1-6 Texas at Austin before earning both a master's degree and a 1-7 doctorate in education from the University of North Texas; and 1-8 WHEREAS, He began his career as a teacher and coach at Holmes 1-9 Junior High School in 1961, and over the course of the years, he 1-10 has served the people of Texas as principal of several schools in 1-11 Dallas and Plano and as an adjunct professor at the University of 1-12 North Texas; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Since 1978, Dr. Wakeland has been superintendent of 1-14 schools with the Frisco Independent School District, and his 1-15 dedication and vision in that capacity have been a source of 1-16 inspiration to his colleagues; and 1-17 WHEREAS, This esteemed educator has greatly contributed to 1-18 his profession in leadership posts with the Texas Association of 1-19 School Administrators, the Texas Association of Community Schools, 1-20 and the Collin County Administrators Association, and he has also 1-21 served as a member of the University Interscholastic League's 1-22 Legislative Council; and 1-23 WHEREAS, His vast achievements have earned him well-deserved 1-24 acclaim; in addition to receiving awards from his graduate alma 2-1 mater, he has been recognized as a leader in Texas education by 2-2 Texas School Business Magazine, and he has been granted honorary 2-3 life memberships in the state and national PTAs; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Dr. Wakeland has maintained an active involvement in 2-5 his community through his participation in several worthy 2-6 organizations, including the Frisco Rotary Club, the Frisco Chamber 2-7 of Commerce, the Collin County Business-Education Coalition, and 2-8 the First United Methodist Church of Frisco; and 2-9 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he has been aided by the love 2-10 and support of his wife, Jacquline, an employee of The University 2-11 of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, and the couple's 2-12 children, Mark and Sherri; and 2-13 WHEREAS, Justin Wakeland has greatly enhanced the quality of 2-14 education in the Lone Star State, and he is indeed worthy of 2-15 special praise and recognition on the occasion of his retirement; 2-16 now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-18 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Justin Wakeland on his 2-19 outstanding service as superintendent of schools with the Frisco 2-20 Independent School District and extend to him warmest best wishes 2-21 for a happy and rewarding retirement; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-23 prepared for Dr. Wakeland as an expression of high regard by the 2-24 Texas House of Representatives.
